1985

(-->1985

Hearts in Atlantis (1999) is a collection of two novellas and three short stories by Stephen King, all connected to one another by recurring characters and taking place in roughly chronological order.
The stories are about the baby boomer generation, specifically King's view that this generation (to which he belongs) failed to live up to its promise and ideals. Significantly, the opening epigraph of the collection is the Peter Fonda line from the end ofEasy Rider: "We blew it." All of the stories are about baby boomers, and in all of them the members of that generation fail profoundly, or are paying the costs of some profound failure on their part.~Wiki

King Kashekim Nedakh: In times of danger, the crystal would choose a host - one of royal blood - to protect itself and its people. It will accept no other.
Milo: "Choose"? You mean, this thing is alive?
King Kashekim Nedakh: In a way. The crystal thrives on the collective emotions of all who came before us. In return, it provides power. Longevity. Protection. As it grew, it developed a consciousness of its own. [coughs] In my arrogance, I sought to use it as a weapon of war. But its power proved too great to control. It overwhelmed us... and led to our destruction.
Milo: So that's why you hid it beneath the city. To prevent history from repeating itself!

In the most stable dynasties, the new king was always a stranger, a foreigner; what is more, he had to kill the old king and marry that king’s daughter. This system ensured the virility and capacity of every king. . . . To ensure the succession, it was therefore devised: firstly, that the blood royal should really be the royal blood, and secondly, that this strain should be fortified by the introduction of the conquering stranger, instead of being attenuated by continual in-breeding. (Crowley)

it's so strange--in thinking about Back To The Future, and how Mary healed his family by giving them the confidence that he himself needed, he created the world that he wanted. All I can think about too is the idea of Atlantis, how a generation undid itself, yet how it was their children that redeemed them. The Fantastic Mr. Fox--Michael J . . .
So much of our problems toady come out of the darkness of World War Two. Our possessiveness, greed, the whole petrochemical industry.

I suppose our underworld fight is of great proportions. I think we are up to the task, though.
I'm currently working on a time machine, I'll let you know when it's done . . .

In 1988, teenager Donnie Darko (Jake Gyllenhaal) has been seeing a psychiatrist because of his troubled history. On October 2, Frank (James Duval), a menacing, demonic-looking rabbit with an eerie, hypnotic voice, draws Donnie out of his room to tell him, in 28 days, 6 hours, 42 minutes, and 12 seconds, the world will end.

What year is it anyway?

The shot of the bike ride to Grandma Death's house is an homage to Steven Spielberg's E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial (1982), in which, Drew Barrymore also starred.
Back To The FutureThe movie takes place in 1988.
The world ends in 28 days, 06 hours, 42 minutes, and 12 secs.
If you add these numbers, the sum is 88.
When Samantha asks when she can have kids, Donnie says: "Not until 8th grade."
Donnie mentions to his therapist his dog died when he was eight.
According to the television reporter, the fire at Jim Cunningham's house was extinguished "sometime after 8:00 last night.".
Donnie mentions the DeLorean car, which was used for time travel in Back to the Future (1985).
In Back To The Future the DeLorean had to reach a speed of 88 mph to travel in time. ~(Dan Smith)

so, I think this whole knot is coming together. I understand the syncing of Atlantis now (it hasn't happened yet). They myth predates the event which is what we are about to undergo if we don't change.

Thank you Crystal for presenting the puzzle piece that unlocked it for me . . .
Johnny be God.  See, he was handed the book.

(this is the whole thrust of all the time travel movies. To go back and heal the breach. Fix the problem, prevent the disaster)
Atlantis hasn't sunk yet. (though we are getting closer . . . . )

see this is the trip up. Yes, microcosmically some of us had our families split, and this somehow is similar to the dolorous blow that wounds the King and creates the wasteland . . .
--But, as a culture, we westerns underwent a bigger divorce. During our so called "enlightenment" our mom and dad split, big time. This is the divorce we are really mourning. The separation of spirit and material. Mom (spirit) ended up in the hands of petty little men (The Church). And Dad, became shallow and superficial, a creature of no depth ( and all vices). (At the head of The church of Science, that is scientific materialism--where material is EVERYTHING) which of course western culture is based upon. Our poor abused mother. By removing the "soul" from material, one can do anything without any empathy, viz., Fuck Shit UP (And thus we will do anything in our pursuit of GOD: Gold Oil Drugs . . . .

(Think about the film American Psycho to understand what is truly at our core and why. He, our father, can get away with anything. (pssst. it's our barbaric heart!)

Yet Atlantis isn't sunk yet.

BACK TO THE FUTURE IN A NUITSHELL

"I haven't even been born yet."

In the first film, Marty (as Prospero/Harry Potter) performs the coniunctio on his parents (the Quarreling Couple), effectively reversing entropy (Nigredo). Doc is the Alchemist, God--Gott ist todt, killed by terra-rists (matter), but Marty consistently receives help from Doc in the past and (later) future. His actions will heal the breach and resurrect Doc/God.

Marty wishes to violate his Mother (Oedipus, eat your heart out).

A new Book: the Lovers

(Mae West is a life preserver; Marty the aspirant is under the protection of the goddess.)

"It's like we're in hell or something."

"In Xanadu did Kubla Khan a stately pleasure dome decree . . ."

Biff Kill: In the second film, Biff the Tyrant-King (Major Tom Will Son) takes over the timeline and must defeated (Albedo). The Son (Horus) is in trouble, and must gain strength!

"Hallows or horcruxes?"

The Tarot is the Sports Almanac; it tells one the outcome of every story, real and fictional. This is the Secret Meaning of the Law, now revealed to the adept.

THE MYSTERIOUS FRATERNITY OF THE ROSICRUCIANS (1604). La Fama Fraternitatis Rosæ Crucis (1613) shows the Initiate that the Rosicrucians possessed the Tarot, which is described thus--

They possess a book from which they can learn everything that is in the books already written and to be written.

Marty and Doc returned to Lyon Estates as storm clouds began to sparkle with lightning. Marty burned the Almanac in a bucket, and everything became normal again. The matchbox cover changed back to Biff's Auto Detailing, and the papers with George McFly being murdered and Doc being committed changed to George and Doc both receiving awards.

Compare with this passage from Aleister Crowley's Vision and the Voice:

Now I perceive the Temple that is the heart of this Aethyr; it is an Urn suspended in the air, without support, above the centre of a well. And the well hath eight pillars, and a canopy above it, and without there is a circle of marble paving-stones, and without them a great outer circle of pillars. And beyond there is the forest of the stars. But the Urn is the wonderful thing in all this; it is made of fixed Mercury; and within it are the ashes of the Book Tarot, which hath been utterly consumed.

And this is that mystery which is spoken of in the Acts of the Apostles; that Jupiter and Mercury (Kether and Chokmah) visited (that is, inspired), Ephesus, the City of Diana, Binah --- was not Diana a black stone? -- and they burnt their books of magick.

Now it seems that the centre of infinite space is that Urn, and Hadit is the fire that hath burnt up the book Tarot. For in the book Tarot was preserved all of the wisdom (for the Tarot was called the Book of Thoth), of the Aeon that is passed. . . . And a voice proceedeth from the Urn: From the ashes of the Tarot who shall make the phoenix-wand? Not even he who by his understanding hath made the lotus-wand to grow in the Great Sea. Get thee back, for thou art not an Atheist, and though thou have violated thy mother, thou hast not slain thy father. Get thee back from the Urn; thy ashes are not hidden here. (6th Aethyr)

(Crowley explains: To fulfill the Law of the TARO/TORA, the adept must alchemically burn up his karma, the record of his past deeds, which is equated with killing the Man of Sin--Biff Tannen.)

The Tomb of Osiris

The third film is set in the quintessentially American locale of the Old West. Doc (Yahweh) is once more raised from the dead and finally receives the Shekinah (Rubedo). American Spirit. Marty's name is "Clint Eastwood," the Man With No Name (NEMO, the Gunslinger--Anonymous again).
